Fond of splitting up God

This is a parenthetical statement of P. Pett in comments on Rom 7.4:

We must not let the work of the Holy Spirit blind us to the fact that Jesus Christ Himself and the Father also live within us. We can become too fond of splitting up the Triune God.

Most appropriate.

God’s Spirit supplies enabling power

Ed’s devotional text today is Zech 4.6, with tons of application for the body of Christ.

Depending on God. Israel must not be idle. She was given a task. The hands of man laid the foundation. The hands of man must complete it, Zechariah 4:9. God gave them a job to do. He also gave them His Spirit to get it done. It was His Spirit who supplied the enabling power. Israel had no reason to boast, I Corinthians 1:26-29.

Let us not ignore God’s Spirit. He gives us power for life and work. We cannot do it alone. He is the key to our success in the Lord.

Focus question: What small things in the kingdom appear useless to me? What needs to be rebuilt or restarted in my life or service to God?

Aside spoken

The aside spoken twixt thee and me in whispers,
Or else is muttered only to my whiskers —
The worldly need not hear at first our struggles,
But see the Spirit of God in human troubles.
