Hymn of Greatest Need

This I found in my email archive from Nov. 2004, from the old topica.com Cloudburst Poetry list

More than a blessing I ask you, my Lord;
Such boldness, such courage I cannot afford,
For I, finite creature, come seeking, to plead
For more than a blessing — your presence I need.

Less than yourself cannot ever suffice,
No treasure nor pleasure can tempt or entice.
No earthly possession dare try satisfy
My need for your presence — for you, Lord, I cry!

Daily I step toward this world’s final end,
I pray “Maranatha” — my Savior to send.
Desire uncontained, if it could, haste the day
To meet my dear Savior — with him I shall stay.

    What say you?
