God Is There

I found this poem from 2008, inspired by the quote below. I don’t think it has been published before, so don’t accuse me of cheating the poem-a-day challenge for April. I found it handwritten, badly scribbled and heavily edited, on a printout of the quote.

“No matter how dark the sky, how discouraging the circumstances, how desperate the situation, God is there — a God who is too good to forget and too great to fail. God is there, his mighty arm ruling this universe for him, redeeming all who will let him, and reinforcing any who respond to him in faith and obedience!” —Leo Green

No matter how dark the failing sky,
How heavy the stale, polluted air,
The brow may sweat and throat go dry,
We may be sure that God is there.

Too good to forget, too great to fail,
His mighty arm rules all our ways,
Redeems the weak who cry from the gale,
Lifts up the willing soul who obeys.

Yes, God is there — he’s always there —
For those who trust and work and wait;
And saints who brave this world’s despair
Will feel his embrace at Heaven’s gate.
