Deliberate intensity

Timothy was challenged to live nobly, to follow his faith vigorously, I Timothy 6:11,12. The words “take hold” suggest deliberate intensity—like a drowning man grasping a rope. This is not salvation by works. It is evidence of a genuine faith in the present, the basis of assurance for a positive verdict in the future.

So writes Ed M. in today’s devotional, with 1 Tim 6.12 as main text. Mounce translates the verb as “seize hold;” some versions, as “grab(bing) hold.”

Focus question: What is involved in taking hold of eternal life? Where do you find the greatest challenge in this deliberate intensity?
